Departments

The Departments subsection of the Catalog section lets you manage product departments.

At the top right of the department list there are buttons to add new departments and delete them. For each department you can enter, in addition to a name and description, two images, product display settings, and information for better search engine indexing.

The following table lists the information you can configure for a department:

Name Department name.
Description Description displayed on the department page.
Import code Code used for catalog import with Excel files. If you import products with Excel files, it is important to fill this field with a code that must appear in the Excel file under the Department field.
Small image Department image typically shown with the department name when it appears in a list with other departments.
Large image Department image shown on the department page.
Alignment Position where the large image is displayed on the department page. In some templates it may have no effect because they use absolute positioning.
HTML page Template HTML page used to display the department page. Open2b allows each department to be displayed with its own HTML page.
Sub-department list Number of columns used to display the list of sub-departments on the department page.
Product display Criteria for how products are displayed on the department page. You can choose:
  • the number of products per page and the number of columns, image size, and whether to show the short description;
  • the initial sort order for products on the site, given the Position set in each product page. Options are A-Z or Z-A alphabetical, price ascending or descending, and creation date. Customers can then choose a different sort order, except by creation date.
Rows per page Number of product rows to display on the department page.
Page title Page title shown in the browser window. The page title is also used by search engines for indexing and in search results. In addition, browsers use the page title as the name when the page is bookmarked. If left empty, Open2b uses the department name as the page title.
Description Page description. It is not displayed by the browser but is used by search engines for indexing and in search results. If left empty, Open2b uses the department description as the description.
Keywords Page keywords. They are not displayed by the browser but are used by search engines to index the site.
Position Position of departments in their menus. You can order departments by a specific position and/or alphabetically. Ordering by specific position, even when some departments use alphabetical order, takes priority and, unlike alphabetical order, remains constant for each site language.
Show on site Indicates whether the department should always be shown on the site, only if it contains products, or not shown at all.
