VAT rates
Open2b lets you manage VAT rates and takes into account the needs arising from selling products subject to different regulations, selling in different countries, and selling to private customers and/or companies.
The elements that allow you to set VAT rates are:
- VAT classes.
- Tax zones.
Tax zones
The tax zone indicates the area, expressed by countries, in which a given rate must be applied for the VAT class assigned to the product being sold.
For example, for a VAT class called “VAT 22%” you could have a 20% rate for a tax zone called Italy and a 0% rate for a zone called Europe.
Based on the customer's billing or shipping country, Open2b automatically determines the rate to apply at the time of order (to choose whether VAT is determined based on billing or shipping address see Settings > Options > Documents).
For a customer whose tax zone is not known, for example because they just entered the site and have not placed an order or logged in, the system uses the tax zone of the main customer group.
In each Customer Group you can choose the reference tax zone, and one of these groups will be marked as Main.
When the customer is logged in, their reference tax zone will be used based on the billing data they provided.
